On February 24, 2023, Thalis E.S. S.A. signed a contract with the Municipality of Paionia of the Regional Unit of Kilkis, in the Region of Central Macedonia, for the project " Construction of sewage Pipeline and Waste water Treatment plant of Agios Petros, Municipality of Peonia”.

The design of the plant was carried out following an assessment of the population of St. Peter's settlement. Based on the study, the plant can treat sewage and waterwaste of 2,101 inhabitants with a 20-year forecast of treatment being formed at 2,720 inhabitants and a  40-year forecast of treatment at 3,522 inhabitants.

The project includes:

Construction of two sewage pumping stations and a collection pipeline which will lead all the sewage of the settlement of Agios Petros to the WWTP

Construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) using the method of artificial wetland, which is an alternative and effective solution, compared to conventional biological purification facilities, as it is a proven and safe method of treating waterwaste with natural methods.

The creation of a low environmental footprint facility with aquatic plants is envisaged. This facility, compared to other conventional biological treatment plants, provides great advantages in terms of its maintenance because it revives and works by itself using only the energy of the sun and the nutrients contained in the sewage or waterwaste. The facility has a very good performance, with a long life and continuous operation. Constructed wetlands, also create a new micro-ecosystem in the project area. The treated wastewater does not contain pathogenic microorganisms and can be reused for irrigation or to support the creation of wetlands that contribute to the improvement of the microclimate in the area.
