The object of the contract is the construction of a Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) and a Landfill, the six-month trial Operation and a contractual five-year operation.

The Waste Treatment Plant will treat 43,000 tons of waste annually in which 35,600 tones will be mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) and 7,400 tones will be pre-sorted on source organics.

The organic material will be treated using the dry anaerobic digestion method in continuous-flow reactors and the produced biogas will be energetically utilized to produce electricity that will be outputted into the grid and thermal energy, part of which will be used in the facilities.

The Unit will recover recyclables:

  • Paper / cardboard for at least 30.0% of the corresponding input stream
  • A film for at least 30.0% of the corresponding incoming stream
  • PET for at least 40.0% of the corresponding incoming stream
  • PP-PE for at least 40.0% of the corresponding incoming stream
  • Ferrous, for at least 60.0% of the corresponding incoming current
  • Aluminum, for at least 60.0% of the corresponding incoming current

The Unit will produce two kinds of compost:

  • Type A Compost, from the organic fraction of MSW according to (CMD οικ.56366/4351/14.)
  • High quality compost from the pre-sorted organics, according to (dec. 2006/799 and the dec.2007/64.)

The WTP residue will be at most 40% by weight on the incoming mixed MSW and the pre-sorted organics in the facility and will landfilled in the landfill that will be constructed as part of the contract.

Wastewater from the WTP, the Landfill and the two existing cells will be driven to the new upgraded leachate Treatment Plant (membranes and RO). Buildings and infrastructure will be also constructed.

The plant will include the following infrastructure units:

  • Reception and temporary storage unit for incoming MSW
  • Reception and temporary storage unit for incoming pre-sorted organics.
  • Mechanical treatment unit for the recovery of recyclables and the separation of the organic fraction out of the MSW for the biological treatment and energy utilization.
  • Biological treatment plant for the organic fraction of the MSW and the pre-sorted organics using the dry anaerobic digestion method.
  • Biogas production and energy utilization unit with cogeneration of electric and heat energy.
  • Aerobic biological digestion plant with a combination of aerobic cells and open stirring rows.
  • Refinery unit to produce Type A digestions and certain specifications compost.
  • Environmental protection units to treat the produced gaseous pollutants and liquid waste.
  • Upgrading of the existing leachate treatment plant to accept all waste water from the WTP, the Landfill and the two existing cells
  • Rest Waste Landfill
  • Buildings - Sheds
  • Infrastructure Works
  • Road network
  • Water supply - fire extinguishing water tanks
  • Water supply and fire extinguishing pipelines
  • Sewerage pipelines
  • High voltage lines
  • Lighting lines
  • Weak voltage lines
  • Rainwater drainage
  • Recirculating pipelines
  • Mobile equipment (batch inverter, loader, branch shredder, Hook lift)
